Bipolar versus monopolar electrosurgery: clinical applications.
نویسنده
چکیده
In all cases, however, certain technical goals are essential, including control of hemorrhage, visibility, absence of harmful effects to the surgical site and adjacent tissues, postoperative comfort, and rapid healing. One modality that has been used historically to accomplish certain periodontal surgical procedures is electrosurgery. Conventional electrosurgery devices are monopolar, whereby tissue is cut by means of an advancing spark with the patient grounded and in the electrical loop. This modality has certain clinical disadvantages, including sparking, spread of the electrical current, and potential thermal damage to the tissues because of heat generation, which have limited its application.

Postoperative Adhesion Formation in a Rabbit Model: Monopolar Electrosurgery Versus Ultrasonic Scalpel
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES To determine if surgery using ultrasonic energy for dissection results in less adhesion formation than monopolar electrosurgical energy in the late (8 weeks) postoperative period. METHODS Injuries were induced in rabbits by using ultrasonic energy on one uterine horn and the adjacent pelvic sidewall and using monopolar energy on the opposite side. Eight weeks postope...
متن کاملElectrosurgical generators and monopolar and bipolar electrosurgery.
Electrosurgery is the most commonly used and misunderstood technology by all surgical and medical disciplines. A lack of basic knowledge or ignorance of principles of electrosurgery and equipment among obstetricians and gynecologists is reported. As a result, thermal injuries during laparoscopic electrosurgery occur, which frequently lead to significant morbidity and mortality and medicolegal a...

متن کاملElectrosurgery use in circumcision in children: Is it safe?
Circumcision is one of the most common procedures performed worldwide. Bleeding is one of the most common complications following male circumcision, and to decrease the risk of bleeding, electrosurgery may be utilized. However, the use of diathermy on the penis is controversial, and there are reported complications due to the use of electrosurgery for circumcision. The aim of this review is to ...
متن کاملNew technology Ultrasonic dissection for endoscopic surgery
With the development of endoscopic surgery, new hazards of high-frequency (HF) electrosurgery have been recognized. The potential risks of monopolar electrosurgery, the limitations of bipolar technique, and the need to reduce instrument interchange have favored the use of ultrasonic technology, which becomes more and more popular. This work aims at presenting the main features of the currently ...
